Oops! This was my June 4, 2009 Posting
How the Day Started
Mom has a bladder infection now! She's totally falling apart.
Garage Sale
Mom and dad both went back to bed when I started the garage sale.
Therapy
Dad's Therapist came around 10:00 a.m., and she was amazed at how well he is doing. I think that encouraged mom to call and make her appointment, so she is going tomorrow.
Visitor
Some man who came to the garage sale bought dad's hand lawn mower. Dad was just coming to sit outside, and Marie (our neighbor) was bringing a painting over that she wanted to sell. Well, the man was asking all kinds of questions about the painting, which was of Florence, Italy. Then, he said he would buy it for the price I gave him of $25.00. (I hope it's not one of those rare garage sale finds that's worth a lot of money!) So, next thing you know, the man sits down and talks to dad for about 2 hours! He even asked dad to join the Rotary group that he belongs to, and I think dad is considering it. Marie, our neighbor was impressed that dad was getting around so well, and Hali, the neighbor girl said, "I thought that old people needed wheel chairs after surgery." She is so funny! Garage Sale It was a very busy day with the kids having a Lemonade Stand, washing cars, people in and out. We sold a lot of junk though. Then, we all sang "Happy Birthday" to dad, and had cake. J.C. Penny's I took mom to get some workout pants for therapy. She needed something loose and big.

June 6th
The past few days have been pretty busy. Taking care of everything around the house, holding a garage sale, and getting ready to go to New York.
I have to leave mom and dad on their own M-F next week. Let's keep our fingers crossed that they don't do anything crazy.
Driving
Dad is getting stronger. The Therapist showed him how to get in/out of the car, and mom went with him for a ride in the subdivision.
He is doing better than mom, but I just found out today that the Therapist she went to didn't even show her how to do the exercises, he just handed her a piece of paper! That's ridiculous! What if she did it wrong? So, I left a message that she won't be returning, and we got a referral from Dad's Therapist who recommended the one that's affiliated with Centegra.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BOB!
You know dad is feeling better because he wants to go to the casino for his birthday. Mom isn't feeling up to it though, so you know that she must be sick.
A Fun Day!
Already they are screaming at each other. Then, Grandma called for mom, and when I went to tell her, where do you think she was?....Down the driveway getting dad's newspaper. I don't know what to do except to tie her to the bed. Now I know how people get in trouble when taking care of the elderly. They have no alternatives sometimes. Did she somehow forget what the doctor said between yesterday and TODAY?!?
There's already paper particles on the floor, and dad's mess in the kitchen from his 2 hour long breakfast. Then, he was arguing with us because we threw away is coffee that was in an expired container. And, if I here the word "ain't" one more time, I'm going to scream. Mom and I tell dad all the time not to use that word, and he uses it about 10 times a day. I sure didn't miss that!
Thank God I'm going for my Spanish class soon. Tomorrow is the garage sale though, which I almost forgot about until the neighbor called and reminded me.
Dr. Reiderman
Now, mom wants me to call Dr. Reiderman for her. I don't know why she makes me do all of her dirty work. Why can't she call him? I can understand getting the newspaper, cleaning, and doing the other things that she can't/shouldn't do, but she's getting ridiculous! I'm trying to get some work done before I leave for class. She acts as though I have nothing else to do. She is exactly like my Grandma!
Finally, Some Good News!
I just heard from Jenny, and she's ready for me to start full-time. I will be going to New York sometime in the near future to train. Yippee!
After Spanish Class
When I got home from my Spanish class, we were supposed to have cake for dad's birthday, but mom was too sick. Apparently, I can't leave them alone for a second! Dad told her to take TWO Vicodins for her pain, and she was sicker than a dog! She called the Pharmacist, who told her to drink a lot of water, and sleep it off. Dr. Reiderman ordered an MRI for her at 7:00 p.m.
The Nurse was also at our house to visit dad. She said he's doing great, and that he can drive (I'm sure short distances only). He has therapy at home tomorrow.
There was also a Roofer here to give us a quote because while dad was in the hospital, we discovered that their was a leak in his closet. He basically said that we need a new roof.
MRI
The MRI place was past Great America. Afterwards, she felt even more sick, but she makes herself sick! She said it was too closed in. I might have to send her to Grandma's to be taken care of because if I have a Stroke, I don't know who's going to take care of me! It will take 48 hours for the results.
Can Anything Else Go Wrong?
My closet shelf fell down today. I don't even know how I'm going to get it back up again.
Birthday
Needless to say dad didn't have the greatest birthday.

Mom's Appointment
We headed out very early to take the train downtown. Mom was in a lot of pain.
We arrived early, and she had a lot of forms to fill out. The waiting room was filling up quickly. I suspect that they take Medicaid because there were some icky people there. I would definitely not want to be Nurse or Doctor. I would be like, "Can you please bathe and come back LATER? I'm sure that my partner would be pleased to assist you." I would rather take care of dogs with ticks! Glad they had hand sanitizer. This is a place that handles injuries to the White Sox and Bulls players.
Dr. An
Mom saw Dr. An. He wasn't one of the doctors mentioned in the article though.
Diagnosis
Dr. An said that mom's main problem is the Osteoperosis and Arthritis, which caused the fractures. He said that she shouldn't do any major lifting or anything, but that she shouldn't be a couch potato either. He referred her to a doctor who specializes in women's health and Osteoperosis. He also gave her some pain killers and another medication for Osteoperosis, which is supposed to assist with her fractures. He said she'd be better in 3-4 weeks. She also has to go for Physical Therapy. He said that movement is good (but you have to do it correctly). He said she did not require surgery. That was awesome news!
Lunch
Mom and I didn't even stop for lunch because she wasn't feeling well. We just picked up something to bring home since dad was already home. Patty said she dropped dad off and he was on the laptop in mom's bedroom when she left.
Mess
We walked into a giant mess. Patty literally dumped dad because all of his stuff was in the kitchen. I can't stand when everything is in the kitchen! I knew that the clean house wouldn't last long!
Nap Time
We were all exhausted and took a late afternoon nap.
Update on Mom
Dad's doing great, but mom's doing worse. She was in more pain after her nap. She said the new pain killers weren't helping at all! Plus, she read the brochure, and decided that she doesn't want to take those. She called Osco, and they told her that she could take a Vicodin too.
Mom's Bed
Mom called John and asked him to take the stilts off of her bed because she can't get in/out of it.
So, what I thought was good news, is a little concerning. Why is mom having so many issues still?
Uncle Al
All good news today! Uncle Al's surgery was a success. The cancer did not spread, and they re-built his bladder.

Two Choices
So, mom said to me this morning, "you have two choices." I, of course, was like "what are you talking about?" She said that I could 1. Pick up my dad from the hospital tomorrow or 2. Go downtown with her to a Spine specialist.
Hmmm!...Tough choice! Anyone can pick up dad. No offense, but they squeezed mom in after she read what was on her report. It's a good thing that I came across this article in Chicago Magazine while dad was having his surgery. I think you should go to the best of the best. Here's a link to their web site: http://www.rush.edu/rumc/page-1124115592185.html
We have to be on the 6:00 a.m. train (but maybe we should drive).
Visiting Dad
Now, mom is just getting her hair cut this morning and then going to visit dad since she cancelled her other appointment.
Mom said that dad did real well, and that he was even walking with a cane instead of his walker.
Coffee
Mom said she was stopping for coffee for dad on her way home (right after she told me that it's painful to get in/out of the car). I told her that I would go, but she won't listen, and I'm ready to shoot myself! Why would she insist on going when I said that I would, and I have to go to the store anyhow? She just promised up and down that she wouldn't do anything to hurt herself again. I think she has a very short-term memory! AND, dad wouldn't need new coffee if he would have kept it in a container with a lid, but instead, when I opened the cabinet one day, it fell out and grounds were everywhere! Then, mom said she was also going to get him a container to keep it in! No wonder I have no hair! We have 50 million containers, and I just cleaned out the big cabinet. They need to stop buying things that we don't need. I'm getting ready to skip town! This is exactly why I will eat a whole bag of cheese popcorn on the train tomorrow!
He's Coming Home
Dad says he's very happy that he went into Rehab, but he would highly recommend Balmoral. LOL I guess it could be worse (it could have been Winchester House). Patty has to pick him up before 10:00 a.m.
Harley & Daisy are looking forward to him coming home. Harley has been bugging me all night. She's like a little kid when you tell her something in advance.
Uncle Al
On the other hand, we need prayers for Uncle Al who is going in for his surgery tomorrow. XOXOX
Grandma
Grandma keeps calling here tonight about Uncle Al already. What does she think we know? He hasn't even had the surgery yet.
Grandma, Jr.
I was woken up by loud beeping sounds, and a blaring T.V. Then, the phone rang (that was Grandma)! Mom couldn't sleep and was watching T.V. and playing casino games. I guess she doesn't realize that she could turn the sound down. She is so addicted. That's all she wants to do lately. Well, I was going to take her to Puerto Rico, but she ruined it. She's always doing something she's not supposed to, and it's serious. She just won't listen to me. Carole & Mrs. Bitz, you will have to tell her. I told her that it's better not to do something than to end up being paralyzed for the rest of her life.

Photos
I have taken some pictures, but they were with mom's camera phone, and we can't figure out how to get them published. Once dad gets home, he will have to do it.
